BYF 41 Luger with sketchy looking "numbers matching mag"

My friend bought a BYF 41 Luger a few years back for $550 with a feed problem brought it to me to fix and check out . Has what looks like import marks on the left side and XX over something on the right and the other number seem to match. Mag looks faked to me as the numbers are diff and looks like it was sanded. grips are plastic with no other markings.

Any info from the hive mind would be appreciated.

Appears to be an East German rework. They sometimes have VoPo markings (sunbursts with shields) stamped on them, though they were often removed for export.

VoPo markings are always external. Sometimes on the frame somewhere, sometimes on the receiver. I don't see anything in your pics, but not all of them were marked.

By the way, the grips are correct East German grips and the magazine is not "junk". It is the original East German matched magazine. Leave them be.

Ok, I hear you. Cleaned and lubed it, fixed the bent mag lips and it feeds and fires perfectly. Since I have now become infected with the WW2 German gun bug, what would be a fair price should I talk him out of this gun?
