there is no serial # other than 55

it has a winter triggerguard

even bluing on entire rifle, great bore

laminated stock

I need a shooter, not a collector, I have a pile of these things too nice to bubba it, the value will determine the method of scope mounting

I wouldn’t do any permanent damage to that in any way shape or form..... Pick a rifle that’s already been molested beyond repair.

yeah, I think I will just do the no tap scope mount, I got a yugo scope with propper bullet drop marks, correct for bosnia war with 48, buying this was cheaper than fixing my other erma k98, after barrel, bolt repair and repro scope mount and intallation.

That odd marking on the receiver means it was Iraqi army property at some point. These were imported by Federal Ordnance, El Monte Ca., in the mid 1980s
no way ! how crazy is that - where can I find this info? it is marked federal ordinance ! naturally they wouls leave the swaz, winter trigger guard in the deset is....? I was actually in the shithole country for a week in 94'. I was cold at night but not that cold, hmmm Just looked, this was used ny east germany after the war, then given to Iiraq. I have seen a few online, they seem to all have the large triggerguard

I only know this because I bought 40 of them back then, circa 1987, because they were very cheap and had many unnumbered parts on them. Most went from the Czechs to East Germany, as militia weapons, and then on to Iraq, with at least 2 rebuilds.

I saw allot of czech made with the iraq markings, made after the war at brno, this one is byf, not cz made, so cz and e germary sent them to iraq? what year I wonder. I love it, it is new and shiny, whole thing matches except for bolt. perfect for a shooter/collector. right down the middle, thank you for the info, curious, how much was it in 87? * 5/25/20 - These 1945 put together guns take a bit of "detective work". Production would have been around February of 1945, just before the Russians took over the Czech factory, or the parts were shipped for final assembly at the Mauser factory. Many of the parts are BYF and SVW marked, (Mauser) while the DOU receiver is Czech. Numbered parts are matching however many part are not numbered (common in the late war era). The bolt is numbered to the gun but my best guess is that the bolt and the stock were re-used left over parts as the bolt is crudely marked and machined, and the stock (which looks all original and correct) looks like it had a marking removed on the left side of butt. The rest of the stock looks pristine, original, yet rough, un-sanded wood. The hand guard and the inside of the stock are both matching numbered to the gun. The butt plate is marked BRG. There is no bayo lug and the cleaning rod hole is filled with a screw. These are all correct LATE war features. The gun comes with an original leather sling. The metal, while roughly machined, comes in near mint condition - most likely exactly what it would have looked like when it left the factory in 1945. Excellent clean bore. No import marks.

my reciever says bfy 44 so it wasn't made in cz, but it has the cz trigger guard, and the iraq stamp, so this means rifles from Germany were redone by cz and sent back to e germany and then sent to Iraq?

Yes, surplussed off to Iraq about the time of the Iran / Iraq war,

I paid around 150.00 a piece for my horde / swapped out numbered for unnumbered parts / nice stocks for not nice and then sold them over the years through a local pawn / gun shop.

My Iraqi K98k is bcd 4 marked receiver. New barrel with East German proof marks as is the receiver. Also imported by Federal Ordnance.

I actually had the same issue, got it as a shooter, too nice. I got an unissued m48 too, put m24 stock on it, new k98 - not worth too much too shoot
