great find.. this is the best place to possibly get that rifle back to its former glory. do not apply anything to the wood ! the metal could use a wipe down with kroil for starters. Do not attempt to clean anything if you decide to sell it. Im sure your PM box is filling up.

I’m so excited I never find stuff like this! I guess you still can find a really good deal I hope I can find what I need to complete it a few people have told me that the scope mount and scope wouldn’t be numbered for this rifle so I could have a complete set

Very much agree. Just look at those screws. Unmarred and unmolested by regular cheap flathead screwdrivers.

That bolt is something else for me. The shroud… what an example. Congrats 🎉🍾. Many of us only dream to find something like this in their lifetimes. This situation does not happen often, believe me.

CONGRATS!

the scope and base wont be numbered but the mounts were numbered. there are some variations of scopes only used on certain rifles or mounts; Gustloff vs Sauer production, machined ring vs narrow / wide “banded rings” etc. Im not up on all the details. Honestly any base, mount, scope combo will do the rifle justice, finding the matching mount does happen but is rare. My matching mount showed up on GB years after i found my rifle.

its tough finding sniper parts, guys who collect them dont let parts go often for any price. Now and then they pop up on the popular auction sites though. Be patient

im guessin you already read this, if not its the best online summary available

check out the sticky LSR posts also to see the various variations members have (mines Sauer 9688W)

Im stoked you got this rifle! I love finding stuff in the wild, i actually enjoy finding stuff more than owning it. Found my LSR at a yard sale!

I'm not sure I'd even use Kroil. As a penetrant it will find the best way to get absorbed into material, and WILL find its way into the stock.

Dave on the other thread of yours correctly said the base to the rifle would not carry a serial number on it. This however does NOT apply to the detachable scope mount. This mount would have carried the rifle serial.

As I have said, there are very good chances that whoever brought home your rifle also has had the scope base and the scope mount to the rifle. Whoever the seller was, tell them you'd pay another $ 1000 if they are to find the scope base and scope mount to the rifle, and best to possibly show them a picture as to what they should keep the eyes open for. This would definitely make them search too.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but why would that be? I thought the “3 hole” was issued as a regular army rifle…. With the additional pin holes, wouldn’t that mean it was assembled into a sniper? Also the stock inletting. I’ve seen “3 hole” bcds with no stock cutout for the mount.

i was wondering if it ever had a base installed as well, mighty late serial number, nothing close in the stickys.

That was not me who said the Base would not have been serialized to the rifle . That was mrfarb , but I agree 100% the Base would not have been serialized to match the rifle .
