Anybody know how the MG42 quick change barrel system works?

Hey all,

I am currently designing a riffle for fun, and I would like it to be both short recoil operated and have a quick change barrel system. But, the main issue is that I am not smart enough to just know how the system works, and I do not own an MG42 myself to take apart and understand how. So, I'm hoping you guys might help me with it and an understanding of how the system works. What I would mainly like to know is:
How does the barrel return spring get out of the way to allow the barrel to be removed?
How does the barrel lock into place?
If someone could provide pictures or a description of how the barrel change mechanism works, I would be extremely greatful.

Thanks,

Jack

To simplify it in your mind, the bolt must be in the cocked position to remove the barrel, so the bolt and the spring are out of the picture.
A simple spring loaded gate on the right side contains a yoke in which the barrel slides, when closed, the yoke holds the barrel in the center of the jacket. The barrel extension fits into tabs within the jacket at the rear and a bushing at the muzzle end. Quite ingenious.

Here is a link to a picture of the barrel change door. When opened, the yoke forms an eclipse in which the barrel can move, in the closed position it encircles the barrel.

Thank you so much. I will probably have more questions regarding the MG42 in the future. Would you mind if I contacted you again?
