Another sporter pick up dot 44

Looks like it was a matching rifle before it was sportered. Going through backbone of the wehrmacht seems like the markings are appropriate except two questions.

On this one the floor plate has correct manufacturer and waffenampt but also has a serial number which is not listed for dot 1944 as being serialized. Anyone seen this? Also sees to have a B on inside of floorplate.

Also the follower is Lxr which again the book suggests is wrong for this rifle? 2B9BA0D0-43F3-49E2-8354-2207479D52B8.jpeg21F89173-8B5C-4DDD-ADDD-B6E1DD0EF493.jpeg5887984A-88AE-407B-A58A-8BB173925F22.jpeg627BCEDA-3AD1-48C3-9B7A-A4D47B8C953B.jpeg84666F9F-E0C9-4672-B58F-974CEEB687AD.jpegE6457057-A0AE-4CF7-BE25-D4B89E81BD7A.jpeg90166BCD-03B4-49BF-A0C5-91230E193216.jpeg81D6EBCE-82B3-40BE-B88F-D00385A944AB.jpeg2E0BC5D5-C8F7-43DE-AC38-17C212C22C3A.jpeg4D628AE0-82F7-4CA2-A8D4-5F9A580F8618.jpegC7A99DC8-9A48-4F17-A18B-B6D9EB31ACD1.jpeg17011235-5323-4F5C-8126-273F6228EE51.jpeg2E672D4B-F7AD-43B2-84D2-09B108D9D44B.jpeg

Don't put too much stock in the Backbone Book. A lot of outdated info and some rifles with issues being used for data. Pretty sure lxr followers are commonly found on dot and dou production rifles at that time. Sadly, this was the fate of many matching rifles.

Just going by my only reference book, Backbone of the Wehrmacht reports dot 44 had Mauser work byf floor plates and trigger guards

dot 1944 floor plates were serialized with the full serial sans suffix until the transition to the late war 5 digit serial number near the end of 1944. Unsure about the lxr but I don't see a reason why it wouldn't be correct considering everything else is matching. Also, I will never understand why some people thought to fill in the sling cutout and bolt takedown disc. The wood filler doesn't match, it looks tacky and poorly done, and you removed the only place to put a sling. Sad thing is there's a Kar98b sporter for sale locally that has had the exact same thing done to it but Kar98b stocks are nearly impossible to find otherwise I'd buy it and try to save it.

As others have said BBotW has a ton of errors in it. It’s useful in the broad strokes but I wouldn’t take it as gospel.

Also ouch that handguard lip. That’s the real painful bit here.

Thanks for the insights. I plan to replace the rear sight base so I have a lip for the handguard. If I were looking for a “correct” stock set and bands what should I be looking for? BBotW doesn’t have much on the topic. I assume unmarked stamped bands at this point in the war but have no clue about stock markings.
