Amberg

As the title suggests I have just "inherited" an Amber Mauser. It is double dated and has been sporterized, but is a nice rifle. All the numbers match. I am 70 years old and left handed. I don't own rifles I don't hunt with and my eyes require a scope. I gunsmith told me I would be doing this rifle a grave disservice by scoping it. I am no good with computers and don't know how to make pictures. As I said all the marking are easily legible and it was built in 1910, dated again in 1920. I have no idea what this is worth. Can you folks offer some ideas?

To me, it sounds like a Kar98 that originally started life as an Amberg Kar98 and stuck around in German inventory after WWI (hence the 1920 Weimar property stamp). Value is going to be heavily dependent on the condition and degree of sporterization that happened to the rifle. A rifle with just a stock cut down a bit is going to be restorable, a rifle that's had its barrel cut down, bolt jeweled, finish reblued, receiver drilled and tapped, etc. will be beyond restoring to original configuration. Pictures are going to be critical, take some on your phone if you have one and you can attach them to your posts.
