Alternative materials for German WWII holsters.

I am familiar with the Ersatz holsters made from paper but was wondering if any German holster makers in WWII experimented with vinyl or plastic.

Cannot say for holsters. However, take a look at the German police type holster which was recently up for auction (particularly photo #4):

However, I do have a very unusual K98k bayonet frog which is made from a plastic material. This is neither the resin impregnated web material seen in the late 1930s nor the rubberized "fan-belt" stuff which is seen in a number of applications.

the use of presstoff is well known. They started marking binocular cases out of this in 41ish. This is basically pressed paper with a vinyl top that simulates leather. Typically only the hinge points were leather.
I think the amount of leather used to make especially the flap holster was nill.. But, they were trying different things for sure. "Naugahyde' a true synthetic leather was used. Look at all those g/k43 pouches we see today a true synthetic leather. There was also some sort of vinyl plastic used for chin straps and I have seen some 32kal small holsters made of a composite and mix of materials. I wouldnt call them experimental cause they made it into the field. When found today they are typically hard as a rock .

That luger holster is interesting and looks to have a pebbled leather interior added. It looks all leather to me not ersatz .

The lining on the brown police holster is interesting. It is a sewn in fabric, like some of the Japanese holsters.
The pebble grain P-38 holsters are actually not too hard to find.
David Rachwal has a CZ Duo with a rare plastic holster on his website and I found another picture of a plastic holster for the CZ Duo in
Vanderlinden's book on page 52. It's a black vinyl holster for a Dreyse 6.36 pistol.

I found this one recently. It has CNY 44 "C. Pose" stamp. Pose is a well-known holster maker, and it appears legit. Has steel stud.
Unfortunately for me, it fits a Mauser 1910 style pistol which I do not own.

This maker made G43 pouches in a somewhat similar material.

to me this is for a cz27 they are specific as to the way the closer strap was attached and it swings. Always pointing down. Cz27 was the last of the series of pistols designed by the fellow who helped on the 14/34 mauser. So this is possibly why that pistol fits.

I took it to a friend's shop to test fit it with a 1910 Mauser. Of course, it may fit another Axis or European pistol, but it won't be the CZ 27.
It looks like Oprah in a bikini.

Jon sent this to post:

"I saw folks on 98k site section talks on Other materials to make holsters so here is a Mauser patented 1942 Pressed metal Holster for Lugers etc. Please add this to those talks. Thanks, Jon"
