ACQUIRED dou.45 STOCK, LOOKING FOR MORE INFO

Hello,

I really lucked out and got this in a trade which I plan on using to save my dou.45 sporter and I have some questions.

I'm looking for more info on the stock, did they have 3 holes drilled in the stock like pictured?

Are these the correct dou.45 screws and bands, particularly the early large hole drilled bands for vz24 screws? This is a Russian capture so I'm guessing the accessories got mixed.

I'm looking for 2 vz24 disk screws to modify and then put on this stock as my dou.45 is an early no letter suffix, does anyone have any, and will they fit in this stock?

Are there any other points you would like to add or info I should know?

What you really have is a Russian Capture swp45/dot44 Kriegsmodell stock. The full chatter is what gives is away as dot/swp, as well as the milled disc - probably from a rifle in the 15000a-45000a block range, possibly later. The serial on the left butt give it away as RC, it's hard to see in the pics. Bands are correct for an swp/dot, not typical dou bands. Still, a good stock for your rifle until you find a true dou45 stock, which isn't impossible. The extra hole is not original, typical for the Russians to put a screw through the band spring hole in the band.

I'm wondering what makes you think this?? :)

I can kind of see the extra numbers on the left of the stock in the usual RC location. It isn't terribly obvious using a full size monitor so if you are looking with a telephone or other small screen you will have a hard time seeing it. The extra hole in the fore end likely happened when the Russians used a non-Kriegsmodell upper band when they restocked a rifle with that stock. They couldn't use a bandspring without modifying the stock so they put the screw through the hole on the right rear of the upper band where the teet of the bandspring holds the upper band. Your upper stamped band appears to be a dot/dou late type with the appropriate large beveled hole. The screw hole on the rear band may be too small to use a large head screw, so it may not be an original dot/dou late lower band. Other than the extra hole and the damage from someone using bands with holes that did not line up with the preexisting holes in the wood, that is a nice looking stock.

Well there you go. I zoomed in and couldn't see a trace. Also no shellac slopped all over or that ridiculous 'black' finish?

That's not what he has pictured so whoever previously has done some work putting this set together. That additional hole is covered in this scenario anyway.

It looks pretty good for an RC stock! The edges of the sling slot and bolt knob cut look fairly crisp. Looks like Ivan skipped sanding this one, also indicated by the remaining tool chatter.

Thanks mrfarb, by comparing the photos in the km book, (especially the sling cutout) its definitely what you said. I'm new to the late war k98 scene and haven't gotten to the last book in the series yet. Do you have a picture comparing what a stamped and milled take-down disk looks like?

Aaron, here’s a stamped disc, actually even a dou45 disc at that. Luckily I just happened to have a dou45 stock next to me in my truck seat for comparison

Stamped are pretty easy since they have a 'multi-part' look.

That's funny. (you do know you need an intervention, right?)
