AC41 P.38 - Am I out of the loop on prices?

Guy has this AC41 P.38 for sale. All matches, one matching mag, no issues with safety lever, everything works as it should. Guy wants $2100 out the door, feels high, but not sure if I’m operating off old values. Does this seem like a fair price for the p.38 pictured? Feels high to me, but want to make sure I’m not really off and busting his balls.

I have a friend that collects P.38 ac41’s. The last Tulsa gun show, he had a couple with matching mags for sale. Now these two were in really nice condition as well. He had $3,500.00 on them but I don’t think they sold. I haven’t been following the earlier P.38’s to really know myself, but that’s what he had. I am going to say that this one, finish wise, is not up to the two my friend had. But the photos aren’t the best on this one either to really know for sure. So, maybe that will kind of give you a ball park anyway. The matching mag is a real plus.

2100.00 is about market price in Kentucky. Prices have been crazy the last year or so... Hope this helps.

I don’t think it’s an insane price. And the condition is pretty good overall with some wear/corrosion to the right side of slide. I would want to see the grip strap as that tends to wear excessively on these early, high polish pistols. If the grip strap is pretty good, I’d want to get it in the $1500-$1800 range. I think $2100 would be ok if it was flat mint. $2100 would be a good price If it had both matching mags.

Thanks all for the feedback. Grip strap on it isn’t real worn and has the majority of the finish on it too. With a matching mag I was thinking $1800 tops, but maybe I’m a little behind here.

The AC41 was the last of the high gloss blue P38s. Walther transitioned to the dull blue finish sometime in the i block for that year.

That price range will still buy a common date P-38, but an AC41 with matching mag is not in that range and hasn't been for quite a while.

Ac41 with matching mag.. the matching mag adds roughly 20% or so.. The pistol isn't in bad shape either.. has some spotting ect. Im sure he looked online for prices.

If you don't care about dates and mags buy a different one.

I got mine for $1900, If the gun is in a good condition, That's a good deal .

It seems like P38 prices have rise in only the past 4 years (among other milsurps too...). I paid $950 for my matching byf 44 in 2018. Haven't seen those prices since.

Got an FN frame AC44 for $700 about them too, those prices are unfortunately gone.

I think $1800 is a better deal. But if you like it then go for it.

Fair price. Several have sold for more that look similar. Things have gotten expensive this year in my opinion. A nice 1941 dated p 38 is not a common gun anymore in my opinion. Good luck with your pursuit.
