AC 40 P.38 - New to me

I purchased this at a local auction house online auction, they had it labeled as a “Mauser” pistol and holster. They clearly knew it was worth something as there was a reserve and I think I accidentally bid myself up $100 adjusting to their archaic bidding system, but out the door I got the rig for for a price I thought was “reasonable” given the rarity. All matches except for the mag, which is still within the same “B” block. Probably wouldn’t have gone after it with the mm mag had it been anything other than the AC40.

They also had a nice 1939 “42” code K98, it was metal matching and a luftwaffe marked stock. I was willing to gamble probably more than I should have, but without knowing if the whole stock matched I didn’t want to gamble too much and I was eventually out bid. Will upload some better pictures of the P38 tomorrow. Let me know your thoughts!

looks re-blued ( capture) maybe more could be the quality of the photo

I agree, no telling what you bought from those photos. Keep your fingers crossed.

I didn’t realize how bad these pictures were until just now when I looked at what actually uploaded, agreed these are totally worthless ha.

Picking it up tonight, assuming I don’t get a delayed NICS like seems to be happening with everyone now. In person there was also a “matte” of old oil over the whole gun. It was the same with the K98 they were auctioning which allegedly came from the same person. Will give her a good cleaning when I get it home and upload clearer photos.

Try taking the pictures outdoors in a shaded area or on a over cast day.

I have a nice spot in our deck that usually works pretty well once the sun starts to go down, generally get pretty good pictures from that. Try to get some up tonight depending on how long it takes to clean her

Gun Gods came through and my delay was cleared up within 5 minutes of leaving. Got her home and cleaner her up. Will always some better pictures tomorrow. Took one of her with my AC41 (unfortunate barrel and block mm, though match each other), blueing is nearly identical. Removed and cleaned the grips as well, both numbered with the last three of the serial from the pistol. Will take some better photos outside tomorrow as these are still pretty dark.

Thank you! It also came with this holster, I’m thinking pigskin. No markings inside or out, do you think this is a post war addition? Has an aluminum grommet so I’m guessing postwar? I didn’t find any examples in my P38 book in the holsters section, guess that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have been wartime.

Nice one! Love the early features.

The holster looks like a cottage industry post war
