1917 Amberg SSZZA4 Early SS Rework 4758

This is an interesting rifle that I have had for about a year. I have debated back and forth on weather to post it or not. There was a thread on it quite a few years back and the photos are gone. I really hate when I dig up good informative threads on this sight and the photos associated with that thread are gone because they were never directly up loaded to the sight. This rifle is an interesting study. It’s a true one strike rifle with the stock being sanded and restrained. It’s not offensive on this rifle IMHO, but none the less a large wort on a very desirable rifle in its original depot leaving form. The metal seems to be in original/depot reworked form with stock being the only thing dinked with by Bubba. Bubba always seems to find the gems. The earlier thread discussion theorized that this rifle was Gew98 to 98m (sS Visier) to K98K configuration. I am hoping for a little more discussion on the rifle. Plus I thought the rifle is interesting and neat enough to have images posted of it that can be found….. YMMV

Jory, stock still looks great. I can’t say the sanding takes too much from this example. What a beauty! Thanks for sharing and the photos are great.

That's a cool one Jory.. as others have said I wouldn't let the sanding bug me too much on this one. To the surprise of no one, I really do like 98k built off Gew 98 bases.

Very interesting rifle, thanks for posting it. As others have said, stock looks fine. I’d like to have one like that in my collection.

Yea, the stock has been played with, but it honestly doesn’t look out of place. Stuff in the 1930s was basically commercial quality, so a stock could more or less look like this from the factory, whereas a BNZ 44 with this stock would look like hell.
