1916 Spandau unit marked Gew98, with maker marked/dated ersatz sling

Here's an interesting one, matching. The ersatz sling is dated 1917. Note the buttstock was filed/planed, or the duplicator machine did that and the buttstock wasn't sanded much to achieve the smoothness we normally observe.

Very nice, never seen a mfg marked ersatz sling, at least that I recall.

A pretty interesting rifle too, not too many are unit marked of course, have you looked into the unit?
 
Yes, they were part of the 38th division, rated 2nd class. Belgium, Verdun, the Somme, Flanders, Artois, Lys, Cambrai, etc.
 
Not sure how I missed this one. Really nice stock. The only unit marked wartime rifles I have seen are in your collection.
