1899 Danzig depot rework legitimate?

Hey all,

Would like the well-versed to look at this Danzig depot build that I picked up this past Spring.

Action parts match with the exception of a Brazilian bolt body that was thrown in for some odd reason. The other bolt parts still match to the rifle. I don’t see any post Imperial markings on the receiver. It has an Erma barrel that is not serialized. S42G sight base.

Also, the receiver appears to have been left in the white. Is this normal? Thanks

This would be more appropriate in the Weimar era as this looks like a Gewehr 98M. Third Reich era rebarrels are somewhat common though this one is a later one, looks like 1938 with an earlier sight base installed. Can't tell you much more due to limited pictures. Is the stock matching to the receiver and can you post more pictures?

I’m not sure about the stock. I can’t get any more pictures unfortunately due to the fact I’m overseas right now. Here is an overall pic of the rifle.

Just curious, what photos would be beneficial exactly? I suppose there would be some markings under the stock and hadn’t thought about that originally. I figured the pictures I had would be enough to go off of.

Id also like to know how common it was to leave the receivers in the white, because the examples of other depot builds I’ve seen on this website are typically blued.

Will try to get more pictures down the road but it may be a while.

It would not have been in the white. Clearly quite heavily used and the metal has been cleaned somewhat aggressively. For a interesting rifle like this I would personally like to see just about everything. Someone more versed in these conversions may only need to see super clear photos of the receiver serial, barrel markings (above and below woodline) as well as bolt/triggerguard numbers. Right side of buttstock and wrist.

Also I'd like to add that this defintiley some kind of 98k conversion, not a 98m.
