10 Shot Magazines - How to proof that they are original?

Hello,

from time to time there appear 10 shot Magazines for the MP44 or STG44.

Right now (18.03.2025) here:

I was told that the Russians captured a lot of them at the end of the war direct in the factory. The magazines should have been used for one of the Volkssturmgewehr.

Is there anyone who knows so
The 10-round magazines were made for testing the rifles, in the test stands. The Gustloff rifle was always intended to use the normal 30-round magazines

@Absolut
Thanks for the advice. I am reading ;-)

@dingo
This is the well known story. I even heard that the NVA used 5shot magazines.
But there is no proof. No picture, no document, only "some people saying that..."

@CRH113
Nice picture. But it does not show any magazine. In fact the gun would shoot without magazine as well. Or there is a slot for a 30 round magazine...

Let's wait for @Nigromontanus then...

MKb 42 but you get the idea IMG_6440.jpeg

@Nigromontanus
Thanks for the information.

In germany it is forbidden to own rifle magazines with more than 10 round capacity. So, if you want to collect them, you need to collect 10round mags, shortened or deactivated ones. Means cut of feed lips.

That doesnt tell the story behind the 10 rounders.

There are shortened ones on the (german) market, done in Poland, but visible with first look and sold with advise that these are not origin.

And, if you have the permission you dont need do deactivate them.

SSD has sold 10-round magazines in Europe for about 10 years now, so most of the "original" ones are probably SSD with some extra stamps. All types of stamps are made in Poland now, so to find a magazine that you can say is 100% will be hard

That is correct. But it is a fallacy to assume that no stamps were imitated before. In the 1990's a lot of stuff was reproduced in Austria, such as fire suppressors for the MP40. The person who made them had almost any stamp you wanted........

Counterfeiting is not a new invention.....
