Thanks for the information, my rifle came with the sewn in style, original sling, what would be best to try to keep the leather in the best shape even though it's 100 years old?
This not only fixes it for me, but for future owners, these awesome firearms have been around for over 100 years and will still be around when all of us are gone.
I've decided to burn the fake SN's off and live with a 1917 simson that was restocked at some point in time. Just getting rid of the numbers will make me more comfortable with the rifle.
Is it possible that it was re- stocked over there and the sn was just added over here? All the screws have the same sn as the barrel & receiver? Just grasping at straws, thanks
It irritates me that it's not what it portrays, I really don't want to keep it around, maybe I'll part it out. I'm sure a correct stock is a wild goose chase. So I guess my options are limited
You guys really have your facts in order! Unbelievable, I purchased it from someone that lives in Alabama, good thing I only paid 200 for it! Any suggestions on the future of it, I'm not going to pass it off as what it's not. Any suggestions?
The bolt numbers don't match but looks to be the same timeframe. Bolt numbers themselves are all matching, but not to the serial number on the receiver and barrel
Hello, new collector with first gew 98, I have many questions about my rifle and this was the most obvious place to go for information, thanks in advance
