K98 Sniper rifle?

Aquired this rifle a few years back and would like more information on the manufacture country, year, and all available if at all possible. The serial number is 4817 with no additional information stamped in the receiver. The few numbers that are on it seem to be part numbers. The Kahles-Wien H/4X60 scope looks to be original to the rifle. The double triggers work as should and the extensive engraving I believe is by R. Wakonig - Salzburg as engraved on barrel. Also stamped on the receiver underside may gives clues to who manufactured the rifle.

You simply must give us more to go on then these 2 photos. Show us the entire rifle with the acceptance marks on stock and right side of receiver. The right hand photo shows process marks on the bottom of the receiver

This has got to be an april fools gag right?

Also just from what little you've said and shown, no, that's not a K98k sniper. At least not one in any kind of original condition. I don't know what it is, but we can pretty well rule that out.

I bought this house last year, tell me all about it...heres a pic of one of the bricks...

Seriously, what can anyone say based on those photo's...you'll have to get lots more for any info.

Wakonig of Salzburg (state and town in Austria) is a gunsmith/dealer from post WWII period. As a result to this that thread is in the correct sub-section of the forum. This shop however does not exist any more. Anyway, the rifle most possibly should have a commercial firing proof stamp on it that would allow dating it. I suppose it may be 1970s period.

You all btw were ahead of me. I didn't see any pictures at all.

I can not attach pictures for whatever reason. Thanks for the info. I will be glad to send pictures if you respond to rallenhuber@gmail.com

I see you are more successful in posting pictures over on gunboards (for all others --> https://www.gunboards.com/threads/mauser-rifle-identification.1269262/ ). That is a really nice made and very skilled engraved hunting rifle that must had cost quite some money when it was made.

Please check the rifle for any numbers or maker markings and post pictures of those (not just mentioning them). You still have not posted pictures of the Wakonig markings - please add those too. You can post them over at gunboards, I'll check them once they are posted there.

Thanks!

Edit, just saw that you have posted a few more pictures in another thread on Gunboards -> https://www.gunboards.com/threads/mauser-what-model-and-history.1269273/ . In these pictures I noticed the index of the front trigger guard screw is not the same. Does this mean you have had the action out of the stock? And if yes, are there any markings/stamps under the stock?
