N blocks are a late war favorite of mine. I was going through a stack today and ran into this. I don't think I have posted it before. Beautiful. The barrel was already with the receiver as the code is not one from Oberndorf.
Does the bolt come from FN?

My pictures are a bit mediocre. I noticed after I took the photos yesterday but it was too late to take any more.

I agree, the late 'ar44' rifles are super interesting, specifically the 'n' block and the last hand-stamped series.
Add the 'bcd4' receivers into both lots and it gets really interesting.

One unusual aspect of the 'n' block is there are a handful of 'byf44' coded receivers in that group - actually the scarcest of that run.

Hi Bruce, the barrel was finished by FN (ch) and the bolt produced by Astrawerke. Two suppliers of Gustloff, just a coincidence ?
The FN barrel reminds of the letter published on p.169 of Vol IIa. Seems like MO found a way to use those FN barrel blanks.

Great pics I will add. Love to see the barrel and receiver with the "rings" of these later produced rifles. Quite a difference between my 40 Borsigwalde and the BYF-44 I owned. Pre war with walnut are a pleasure to see!

Astrawerke was a major supplier to Mauser beginning in late 1944.
Mainly bolt bodies with some 'bcd 4' coded receivers as well.
Its possible that some of the unmarked bolt bodies also came from the Suhl consortium as well (late war).

Guillaume, I am certain that the supply crisis in that period forced Mauser to take measures to support production, albeit with lower quality control.

Pisgah, you've made it obvious for me that I have a hole in my collection. Now I'm searching for a mid-late war Borsigwalde K98.

The isn’t a Borsigwalde rifle, it’s actually a Mauser Oberndorf.
