Mike, Bruce and Stephan are hard at work on the final planned volume of the Karabiner 98k series. An addendum to the first three volumes with essential additions, clarifications and perhaps a few corrections.

Starting this thread for thoughts and suggestions on what information or other details should be included in the addendum. This is an invitation for open discussion as well as an opportunity to share your thoughts with the authors. With this in mind, what would you like to see included in Volume IV?

Several of the rifle tables seemed to be missing information, and information regarding bayonet lugs seemed to be missing from manufacturers. For example there was a section for each maker regarding band markings, sights, etc, but nothing really photographing or mentioning bayonet lug serial numbers and when the transition to the simplified lug occurred at each maker.

This info above would also be great to have for cleaning rods. for example, when did they transition from L2D SN and WaA to just L2D, just WaA, and finally blank.

A chapter about captured rifles ?
About what happened to the various manufacturers after the end of the war ?
More on ZF41 (with courtesy of Kentomon) ?
Conjectures about the survival rates of some codes ?
How many K98k, w or w/o ZF41, sniper rifles, GGrG equipped a regiment or a division ?
Testimonies of German vets about the K98k ? (I remember a paragraph of « In deadly combat » where the author wrote that he would gladly keep a PPSh instead of his K98k)
What opponents of the Wehrmacht thought about the K98k ?

Capture rifles will be its own text as it should be.
The outcome of the various manufacturers after the war is a good point and perhaps we should add material on that topic.
There will be additional Zf41 material of course.

As for survival rates on various codes, not sure.
Perhaps a dedicated thread on that to start discussion would be a good starting point.

Anyway, its slowly getting started, albeit a bit late.

Sections on the post war sporter industry in Germany and conversations state side. One on some prominent collectors and their collections. One on the mass humpers like Mitchel’s and Milltec so future collectors know what they are and aren’t.

Formatting is incorrect since I pasted this from Word but you get the basic working outline.
In addition we have a large group of period documents from Georg in Austria that we have to sort out.
I am sure that between the material both Jon, Stephan, and Georg have submitted that there will be a substantial
amount of material presented that has not been seen before.

About action covers, there's something weird with the sticky, like there are two parallel threads:

German BraMit! Info on suppressed ammunition (David Truby mentions it in his book, Silencers, Snipers & Assassins). If you guys (Karem/Bruce) don't have those pages, lemme now and I'll copy it and send it to you.

Count me in for a copy of Vol IV too.

Good point .. if you want to cover silencers for the K98k too, I can provide images of three different models from my collection.

I think one started and then I merged it with another to create a main reference but did not delete Bill's original.
