Gewehr 98 Spandau 1914 SOS show purchase

Warrior1354

ax - hole
Well, here it is. The last Gew 98 needed to make the 1914 set complete. I still would like a straight up 1914 Danzig Gew98 someday. Such a rifle like that would go well with the 1907/14 Danzig, I currently have. But, the other one still makes a good place holder for that manufacturer. Anyway I was notified about this rifle almost three years ago. At one time it was listed for sale at Simpsonltd. But, by the time I went on the website it had already sold.

Well a few years go by and I just asked Brian Glenwright if he owned a nice Gew98 in his collection. He told me yes. Well, I asked what manufacturer? And of course he told me 1914 Spandau lol! It was the very rifle from Simpsonltd. Luckily, we were able to come to an agreement later on. Honestly, I can't thank him enough. He was able to make the 1914 set finally complete. And I greatly appreciate that from him. It's also funny, the last one you need is the hardest to locate!

From going over the rifle, it's pretty much all factory original. Plus this rifle never passed through a depot facility either. No signs of depot proofs on the buttplate. From examining this Gew98 the only mismatched parts are the safety, armorers firing pin, and cleaning rod. Have to say I'm very pleased with this one. It really does have a warm appearance to it.

Here's the rest of the rifles to make the 1914 set. I need to get the other ones dug out of the safe. It would look much better seeing the whole group together.

It's a nice rifle on its own merits, but even more importantly, there's a great feeling that comes along with completing a set. I know well how it feels; the only downside is it makes you want to work on the next goal. It never ends.
Speaking facts right there ☠️ "it never ends" that's me with K98K's but finding all the codes and years is a hugely daunting task.....I'm slowly moving down the path of actively telling myself "STOP" but when the time is right new grabs will be had!! (Can ya tell I'm already gonna fail 😂)

Congrats on completing the 1914 set! That's a lovely Spandau 1914, hard to believe it survived the whole war in such nice shape. Thanks for sharing such nice pics of it!

Thank you for the kind words everybody. And unfortunately, Chris is right. Even after a set is complete it never truly ends lol. You're always looking for the next goal but that's a good thing. It means you still enjoy the hunt.
