First K98. BYF 41

Afternoon guys,

Picked this up from a passerby at SoS. I had been looking for my first k98, preferably all matching but picked this bolt mismatch up from a guy who was carrying it around at the show. I really only have one question and that’s why wouldn’t the stock be marked externally? It appears original finish. Both stock and upper hand guard match. All other number parts are matching to the receiver as well.

What can y’all tell me about this piece? I’m pretty uninitiated when it comes to these rifles.

Also some interesting possible battle damage on the rear sight.

Stock has been sanded and refinished imo so that's why you don't see any external markings on the wood.

I remember seeing that one. I wouldn’t worry about the messed with stock too much. For the price you paid you could have done far worse for your first one.

Very hard to see but it’s an i block.

I remember seeing this one also. The stock has been sanded imo.

Yep I think y’all are probably right. They did a good job on it anywho. Cleaned out the bore this morning. Really strong grooves and lands are good. Maybe a little oxidation but overall pretty good.
