Finally got the P38 i wanted

Congrats on your first, we all have to start somewhere. Looks like a Mauser-Oberndorf magazine found its way into your pistol but it's definitely a well carried piece. The locking block is numbered on these as well, though you have to disassemble it to see it. Overall, looks like a nice P38.

Already took it apart and cleaned + oil everything. Was coated in some nasty shite and firing pin was stuck. Locking block matches and some cool waffen amps inside. Hopefully this isn't the first of many haha.

You did well. $1,200 is not over paying on these in that overall condition.

To be “collector correct”, you’ll need a mag that is stamped P.38v e/359. Or, a jvd mag. In the grand scheme of things, they didn’t care what mag was with it, so your Mauser made mag is fine with it.

If it’s special to you then that’s about all that really matters, congrats on your purchase

Thanks man. Currently in the market for one so I can atleast have a couple mags for it (maybe holster too, gotta do my research there first). I can't immagine caring about the mag manufacturer when bullets are flying haha.

Holsters for these are pretty easy, and lesser expensive than an earlier gun. You need a “soft shell holster” of ‘44 variant.

Check out the p38forum as you’ll find a lot of info there. Also, check this web site out for holsters too. He’s an expert on them:

Nice, I thought I'd stop at just one and now have 3 of them. P38s are more affordable than K98ks though so it doesn't hurt the wallet as much when you do stumble across a nice one.

Man he's got a soft shell 1944 holster (police) with 0007 s/n. Not sure if that would piss me off that it's 1 number off or make it cooler

The number you are seeing on the holster is likley an RBN and not a serial number. The German military stopped serializing leather goods very early in the war. The only exception I can remotely think of, and I cannot speak to it in any detail, is possibly scope cases and such that went with serialized sniper rifles.
