My Show of Shows find. Early pattern Bavarian 98/05 plainblade marked to foot artillery. It was given a flash guard at one point, and the high ears were not ground down. The scabbard is obviously not the one it entered service with, but is Bavarian so there’s a decent chance it came to the states this way. Classic Bavarian acceptance: c/K and c/S. It’s a little rough but seems honest, likely some steel wool cleaning in the past.

The scabbard. And the push button release: the nut has a c/S acceptance while the release part has an 18.

Literally the first bayo I picked up when I walked in! Good karma for what came next. I was glad you were willing to trade me this for that "very special" Sg98 a/A

Personally i believe the crown S could be too on pommel but is now invisible?, the crown K is there twice, the scabbard is crown/H proofed.

Glad it all worked out so well, good buddy! Looking forward to seeing photos of your grouping.

I'll check again. The flashguard is covering up an acceptance, but i don't have the right tool to remove the screws safely on these to get to it.

No problem leave as is, i personally dont need the confirmation and the screws and countersunk are all S proofed so correct for this piece, the flashguard could be assembly serialed innerly, but the value would be decreased when dissasembly this with visible traces on screws. Bayonet was delivered with leather body scabbard, but was replaced here with bavarian proofed metall one, most real 1916 production .
