XX depot rifle

I was at the LGS and I'm always looking for a sporterized K98 for a repo sniper build. Today I seen a sporterized rifle marked XX next to the serial number.
The stock is cut down on both ends with a recoil pad added and what could be a homemade band.. The barrel appears to still have it's original length, front sight and contour. The receiver is an Amberg 1917 Gew with a 1939 dated barrel. The bolt, rear sight, floor plate and trigger guard are numbered to the serial number.
Do the numbers on the bolt and sights look right for a depot build?
Sorry I didn't get a picture of the floor plate trigger guard.
The rifle was never tapped for a scope, is it worth buying this and adding a stock and bands?

Man that's begging for a restoration! Wish you had got a picture of the TG assembly. Any marks on the stock that you can recall?
If you don't mind me asking, what did they want for it? Don't sniper it!

Need pictures of the rest of it. Really like it! I bought a depot k98k last year in similar condition for almost a grand and have zero regrets.

NOOOO 😭 man that was one to not sporterize big time. I have a 21st district rifle and find a 20th district build would be a collection dream for me. Especially if the bolt matches like this one. Hopefully it is all matching.

In my opinion buy it and have it sent off for a restoration. It may look bastardized and cost quite a bit to repair the missing wood and buttplate end but a 20th district rifle is not common and it's begging to be restored just from the pics available.

The stock is sanded and there are no marks on the stock. The cost is not too high. I could add a stock, handguard and bands, still be under 1000.00. My gut told me this wasn't the right one for repo sniper, but thanks for confirming that. I'll speak with them this week and see if I can't make a deal for it.

Good deal! Man, wish I had found that! Keep us posted!

You don't show the back of the stock and if they modified it, but it looks like the front might be long enough to splice. Can't quite tell the dimensions, but it's close to being under the rear band. Being how matching it is I'd definitely grab it for a resto.

I like it to as a resto project, and I am not much of a resto guy. You think the stock can be saved and you find some donor wood for it, I have a guy that dose amazing wood work and will share his contact with you. He saved a really jacked up Sterngewher stock for me about a year ago….. You can’t even tell the magic that he worked. Depot assembled rifles are really cool rifles, love that this one was built on a salvage Imperial reciever and is pretty much all still there
