Did I find a piece of history? 1943 C.V.L M1884/98 third pattern bayonet. It's unsharpened and both the blade and scabbard display the numbers 7184.

Makers Mark? Idk

There are lots of unissued 43 dated pieces.

That’s a nice one, hard to say if the frog is original of added. But the frog is probably $200 on its own. It’s a nice piece.
Thanks man, having a difficult time getting similar prices from collectors. Some seem incredibly high.

Do not let someone talk you down on price. It is worth what is said here. We aren`t trying to lowball you like the "collectors" you have talked to.
If they won`t give you what it is worth, post it here on the forum trader.
I`d give you $200 for the frog right now!

I have a guy that offered me $500 for both, but one of the collectors I'm in contact w/ said don't sell both for less than $900 and I feel like he's the ONLY person who's price is anywhere near that high.

I think fair retail value as stated is 200 for frog 200-250 for the bayonet. You would not see this for less than 450 from most "resellers" although you are lucky to get half that from a dealer. Your best bet is to put it up on private sale for around 400 and see if you get any bytes IMO.

Hi. Were all cvl 44's phosphated?
No they are blued dark black and sometimes you'll find black paint on them for whatever reason.

That's not my bayonet. I'm just asking if all '44 CVL bayonets were phosphated😉

Yeah I know :). I guess Ill move my response above the quote.

I don't know what process they were using but it almost looks like the dip bluing you see on some RC K98s.

$900 might be what you would have gotten around 6 months ago or so on ebay when outrageous amounts were being bid.
$500 would be what I would expect to give or get for the S84/98 III and the frog. Not sure on the US M8 and scabbard.

web frog would be probably higher as i mentioned in previous mail anyway the 43cvl is nothing strange , no rarity itself, so 400-500 would be a great price, 900 is for me unreal.

This potential buyer/collector is wasting my time. There's a way to sell on this platform? How does shipping work w/ antique weapons?
There is a way to sell here. You can list it on the forum Trader. Shipping is no big deal for bayonets, knives, daggers, etc. I use the USPS to ship. Never had a problem with content of package. The post office can be slow, misdirect packages that usually get to you. There are occasions that shite gets lost or damaged. I have had several packages go somewhere else but did receive them eventually. Only one never made it to me. It made from Belgium to the US, but disappeared between New York and Kansas. I have had two packages run over by a truck or forklift. Luckily minimal or no damage done. You get $100 free insurance when you use Priority Mail. You can purchase more if needed. That would be something the buyer and you would decide on. An S84/98 III bayonet fits in the 12" x 3.5" x 14.125" medium flat rate box. Be sure to wrap bayonet in something to pad it. I usually wrap it in bubble wrap and then use crumpled up newspaper to fill up space inside of box so bayonet can`t move. Add a little extra padding to the ends of bayonet especially the tip of scabbard so it doesn`t come through the box. Package will get thrown around and don`t think it won`t.
There are several ways to arrange payment. That would be what is convenient for you and/or the buyer, Paypal, Vemo, USPO money order, personal check, etc. Cash not a good idea.
We have a good rapport on the trader. Buyers and sellers can be trusted here. Of course, there are bad seeds occasionally, but we tend to weed them out.

Thanks a lot for the information.
