(Not My Rifle) Curious about double eagle proofs on 1940 243 Receiver

To reiterate, this is not my rifle (and not my photos), but I came across a post on the Reddit r/Mauser sub. Poster there showed his inherited sporter K98k from his grandfather.
What caught my eye are the double eagle proofs on the receiver. I don’t think I’ve seen that before. As some of you guys know, I tend to focus on other Mauser rifles so I’m curious what the experts here think.

I think the barrel may be a replacement, note the serial is different font and without suffix. Maybe then it got re-proofed on the receiver too, for whatever reason.
You might be on to something. The barrel serial SHOULD have the suffix and while e/26 works for Borsigwalde, it also works for the commonly found Geco ordinance spare barrels. Further photos would confirm, but we might not see anymore based on the OP.

Maybe if someone is on that Reddit they can suggest he come over here and post more photos.

I agree, looks like a barrel replacement and for some reason whoever did it decided to reproof the receiver as well. Receiver and barrel serial font are slightly different, and the top firing proof looks more similar to the one located on the barrel.
