I decided this year to shift my collection focus just outside of Arisakas and Mosins. One area I wanted more of were WWI era rifles, so when I was offered this Gew 98 I decided to pick it up. It's all matching, minus the cleaning rod. It did have a clipped firing pin, which is something I've read happened to war bond rifles that were given away. Overall I'm really happy with this example!

Congrats on your first Gewehr 98, and a nice honest Danzig at that! I like the nice strong markings on the beech stock.

Thanks guys! I'm really happy with this one and I can't wait to shoot it. I haven't shot anything in 8mm Mauser in a long time, haha! At some point I'll search for a nice Kar 98 too to go along with this one. Maybe another Danzig to match? From what I understand the 1917 and 18 Danzig Kar 98s are the most common.

the acceptance on the firing pin is so defined. looks great!

Welcome to the dark side Conrad lol. Awesome Danzig and great photos. It is a slippery slope when it comes to Mausers, so you best prepare!! It is good to see you on the K98kforum.
