When it rains, it pours

So you guys know how I've been complaining about the dearth of 98k Mausers in my area.... so tosay I went to my local shop to let them know about the gunpoker order coming their way. Looked at their rack and there were three new arrivals. 2RC and one Yugo. So I asked to see them 0ne DOT44, with flat butpate stock, the Yugo was typical wuth the stock was hammered by sanding, looked like a melted wax version of a stock. The last was in a cupped buttplate stock, unpinged eagles and it was a 1940 dated 660 code. So I'm buying it too. Pics will have to wait as I live in WWA State and every gun has a 10 business day waiting period. :(

Think thats bad? Vermont has a waiting period if you purchase a firearm for suicide awareness and to think about the purchase of a firearm incase you think about harming yourself….. im a State Trooper and I stand there laughing how stupid that is.

your post prompted me to do research, be really glad you don’t live in Minnesota, its 30 DAYS for handgun or semi auto rifle!! (exceptions for LEOS) NH doesn’t technically have any wait times, but practically we do, because the state won’t use the NICS system, but instead employs restricted duty officers to do the checks, runs 7-20 days at times.

30 days is ridiculous….. talk about not having a second amendment at that point

What!!! How is that legal when the standard is 72 hour hold if they gotta double check some records etc?

Facts, if 72 hours is the limit for the NCIS folks (FBI? The folks who do those background checks escapes me ATM, need more sleep) then it should be like that across the country. 7-20 days should be a constitutional challenge.

Ahh yes, but we are a nation of separate but united states, each with their own firearms laws. shooters in Mass have to show gun license to buy ammo!!

Agreed, but ~5 years ago, my son was home from leave from USAF. We visited the Sig store in Epping NH (‘the center of the universe’, local joke) he bought a used p320 in .40cal, it took 10 days to check him, his leave was almost over when they FINALLY called to say we could pick it up. We were trying to figure a plan to have Sig ship it to an ffl near where he lives in VA. We were some pissed. The published reason the state does this is that the NICS doesn’t keep up with domestic protection orders, & in some cases, cleared a sale to a person subject to a DRO. It defies logic that one of the stingiest state governments in the Union spends taxpayer dollars to duplicate a service already paid for by federal taxes. Complaints & efforts to change the policy have failed to date.

Contrast my son’s experience with my own: bought a P. 38 at my LGS last year, I showed my FFL03, no checks made, they took my $$$, wrote my receipt & handed me the pistol. That it’s ‘a collectible firearm’ may be the reason, but it’s still a handgun in a common caliber…….I think the counter guy was happy not to make the call & have a customer pacing around the store, waiting.

This from a state with an assisted suicide program. So, you can't commit suicide, but they will help you if you want too?

I've never waited more than 20 minutes on a handgun, but a few rifles I had sent up from Texas got sat on for 24 hours. Odd that it was always the same 001 I was using.

In West Virginia having a current West Virginia Concealed Carry Permit means the stores don't have to perform the NICS call but of course have to fill out the ATF form 4473. I also have a Curio and Relic FFL 03. I still get called in to the NICS every time because the stores don't want any headache and trouble when their files are examined. I doesn't bother me as I understand how much a pain in the a$$ the ATF can be. Thank God we don't have any wait and hold periods.
