Gew 98 Identification help!

Hello!

I have a Mauser rifle with a modified stock. That really sucks and I would like to get the original stock for it. the problem is that I don't dare to order anything unless I'm absolutely sure. It is clearly marked gew98 year 1907 and Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken Berlin. Front and rear sights look weird? Maybe the barrel and sights have been changed sometime, who knows? Barrel length is approx 27.95 in (71cm).

thanks in advance!

Handguard & both sights are replacements from another model Mauser. Barrel appears to be military by profile but it has been shortened or replaced. If barrel is original it will be Imperial proofed & should be matching to receiver.

The barrel has been replaced. I checked thanks for that information. My next question is, if the barrel has been shortened, what stock fit it. Gew 98 original? I've been thinking PPHU fox re make stocks.
Big thanks for answers!

I guess this is one of those Spanish "alterations" If this was mine, I'd probably cut it to k98 length and put k98 sights on it, but only if the barrel was in really nice condition, otherwise you're just throwing good money after bad, So, what you have is a nice receiver and TG that could be built into whatever type of shooter (not collectable) you want, depending on how much money you want to throw at it, realizing that you'll most likely never that money back when it comes time to sell.

I'll also throw out that if you ever wanted to build up a custom sporter, you could do a lot worse than using this as the basis. Nothing really left to destroy, the receiver isn't interesting enough on its own to warrant a full rebuild, no real reason not to go hog wild with getting some quality work done to it. If you really want a project that's also not going to be worth more than you put into it, but it would at least be more fun.
