Hello guys I got this sling and I’m pretty sure it’s a imperial German gew98 sling but I just want to make sure, also it’s pretty moldy and im not sure what the best way of cleaning it would be

Export version but same model as the early pattern Gew sling. Very light Ballistol or neatsfoot oil will be best for cleaning.

What’s the difference between export and imperial? Also would dawn soap and a little warm water work or is that a bad idea?

Export means made for another governments contract (or the commercial market) opposed to a German government contract.
Lysol will kill mold if it’s moldy. If it’s not mold then just use oil. Soap will dry out the leather. Oil will not.

Thanks for the help but I meant what are the physical differences in the slings like how can you tell them apart since you said they are the same model?

My mistake, sorry to sound condescending. Very little difference at all, other than sometimes the metal used in the stud. The pattern is the same and the leather should be the same dimension. The markings on the detach swivel is how you tell though. Instead of imperial acceptance they are marked with symbols. (Conveniently it’s the same with cleaning rods.)

Your last picture shows a quick detach with the Brazilian contract 1908 acceptance mark.
Were there some left over and in Germany at the start of WWI? Most certainly. Where they used by the German military during WWI? Given the number of arms and material they acquired it is likely.
