DWM 1917

Hi All,

I’ve had this DWM 1917 for several weeks now, it was basically just an upgrade from the one I bought last year. Like most, this one still possess old features. I do like Chris’ thought that an unknown subcontractor may have been making these, it would also make sense to apply that to Simson. I suppose it’s that or large numbers of finished stocks kept on hand. With the latter, you would think the same problem would apply to all the big players, which it doesn’t. Anyway, enjoy.

The use of Bohler steel (barrels) is largely shared between DWM, Amberg & Erfurt, -Simson rarely in ranges or small groups. The BC placement in FRS is pretty restricted to the three Berlin makers (Spandau-DWM-WOK); Simson was the one outsider among the makers, alone & disliked (so much for Jews collaborating), they seemed to be the only real outsider, maybe Oberspree in a way due to its circumstances but they had papa Loewe-DWM to smooth the bastardization.

I think that if any maker could handle the load of MG, P08, G98 in enormous numbers attributed to them, DWM was the only one to achieve such status (Erfurt was remarkable too, same line up (G98-K98, P08, MG in enormous numbers but not the quality...)
