Research project: Gew98 Navy contracts

Incredible rifle Wolfgang never thought I would see one that was contracted by Mauser. We show the sales record that Mauser contracted rifles to the Navy. But never thought I would see one come to light. I also wanted to mention talking to a few older collectors at the SOS show. Some of them did have a few Naval rifles in their collections. One of them mentioned he has a matching Naval rifle, and the receiver was marked to the Mauser company. Wish I could see a picture of it, but he's old school. Doesn't deal with the cell phone or computer. Again thank you very much for sharing Wolfgang.

Thanks.
As always, it is a great pleasure for me to be able to contribute to the research projects.
I asked the seller for more and better photos.
Let's see.

That is fascinating, thanks for sharing! Very interesting that the Prussian WMOs from the era have their own inspectors, but Naval and Wurtt WMOs are the same. I would have expected the naval contract inspectors to be the same as DWM.

Wanted to give a big thanks to Wolfgang. He sent me this awesome photograph in an email. He wanted me to add this to the research thread which I think it rightfully belongs.

The Russian empire purchased thousands of foreign arms during the Great war, and this to me. I would say, would be the most unique. That is the Japanese Type 38 and Type 30. Some of these rifles were originally contracted to Mexico. Well, that was until the contract was defaulted on. Only 5000 of the Type 38 rifles chambered in 7x57 were ever shipped to Mexico. And the other 35,000 were sold off to the Russians. Along with 600,000 Type 38, and Type 30 Arisaka rifles chambered in the 6.5x50sr cartridge. The British empire also purchased Arisaka rifles too, and many were used by the Royal navy. Later on many of these rifles would be captured by the Austrian Hungarian empire, and Imperial German forces.

So, you have a Arisaka rifle. That could have been part of the Mexican contract. Later on sold off as surplus to the Russians. Then captured by the central powers during the Great War. And now used by a German sailor of the Kaiserliche.

The biggest question after all this? Would that dust cover still match lol!

Undated Simson SG 98. Cancelled I. M. D. marking, replaced by W. K. Scabbard and bayonet are forty numbers apart. Acceptance appears to be c/N, and the crown looks like the large and boxy imperial version.

VC. Schilling suhl S98/05 sawback bayonet made in 1912. This one has a matching unit marked scabbard to the Werft Wilhelmshaven dockyard. I have to give my buddy Ted a big thank you for selling me this bayonet a few years ago.

Simson S98 bayonet with matching unit marked scabbard for the 2nd Seabataillon (Wilhelmshaven). Really like the early style proofs on this one. Out of all my naval blades in my collection. I noticed many of them are all simson suhl production. I have a feeling they had a special contract order for just the naval units. Some of them have the Naval style crown markings too. Have to give a big thank you to Mike Foley for selling this one to me. Some day I'll find a rifle and lid to go with it.

Another Naval muzzle lid to the dockyard of Danzig. Rifle weapon number pretty close to the one Cyrus posted up as well. And once again, a big thank you to Mike. For selling this lid to me with that awesome naval rifle.
