M937B Blueing Question

Hello everyone

Quick question for those with a moment to spare.

Is there a consensus on whether the blueing / finish on this receiver is original or re-done? It looks very glossy to me, and the inspection stamp somewhat lacking in crispness.

I'm sorry about the photo quality; it is the best available.

All the best

Many thanks, appreciated.

These aren't my photos so I am a little hesitant to post too many, but I attached are a couple more.

I thought it was an interesting question as lack of crispness often arises in threads as a highlight that work has been done. Equally, the example of the M937B receiver inspection in Vol. IIa does not appear to be especially crisp.

Bolt does look pretty crisp though.

Original finish, wood and metal, without doubt. While marked 1941, this rifle was most likely built in 1942. These rifles were finished by Mauser Oberndorf to a high commercial standard. My avatar is a detail shot of my own such rifle. I can see myself in its original polished receiver ring, like we see in your photos.

If this gun is for sale, buy it! These guns will often have an original matching serial numbered bayonet with them, along with the original factory mounted sling. Many such rifles were disposed of by the Portuguese government in the early 1960s and were imported into and sold in the US and Canada. They were in unissued condition, and many remain so today

Many thanks indeed for the replies, which are very helpful and much appreciated.

It was for sale and I have now bought it. I hope to collect it next week so I can post some proper photos if that's of interest to anyone.

The rifle appears to come with the matching bayonet.
