Need to id this sling. I bought it shortly after receiving my first model SMG FG42, with the intention of scavenging the fittings to make a sling.

There are no proofs that I see on the fittings or the leather. Is this possibly a Luft item or a post war item? If it is a Luft sling then it is probably the same fittings that were used on original FG42 slings. The sling is very nice and I am having a hard time bring myself to destroy it for the fittings.

Appears to be an original standard Mg34 split sling; not all were marked on the buckle. This is a mid war example, as it has a simplified front buckle as well as earlier narrow type rear buckle that wasn’t modified to accommodate the thicker grip stick found on the MG42. I would not cut it up.

Thank you, ill leave it as it is.

I need to find one that is dry rotted/broken to scavenge fittings from
