Question about the DOW scope

Hello

I have a question about the Double Claw DOW scope (this model on the photo).
Does anyone know one or more photos where we see this scope in combat during WW2 ?

And more simply, are we sure that this model of scope has been used by the army during ww2 (not postwar) ?

Thank you for the link. I see the superb photo , but the scope in the hand of the soldier on the left seems a first model (dow scope with focus adjuster on ocular)
my question is for the model without focus on the ocular shown on my photo.

The mount is not a double claw.

I was not aware you were looking in particular for a picture to show the "second model dow+". Sorry, can't help you with this. Generally just to point it out - you usually will find more pictures that date to early of WWII rather than late. As a result to this most pictures also tend to show earlier scope mounts like the turret (especially low turret). As a result to this for example period pictures of the late Long Side Rail mount are extremely rare. Mix this fact up with the production numbers (of which the SS DC mount with those dow+ scopes was for 5000 total) and you know as to why it is rare to find one of those, especially if you are looking for a specific model too.

IMHO there is no doubt these are original WWII scopes. There are rifles out there which are identical (both early focal adjustment and late non focal adjustment I mean) and scopes matching numbers to the rifles, so there is no reason as to believe why the non focal adjustment scopes were all set up post war. I do admit that this scope and mount most likely was also produced post WWII, and as a result to this one should always be careful when looking at these rifles. Additionally for the fact that the bases are pretty simple and the only additional giveaway is a stamp, which you can buy online as reproduction.

Edit: the particular scope you show in your pictures seems to lack a rifle number. It may be that it either was scrubbed and refinished, or is an unused scope. Not sure if that is why you were asking?

The difficulty is to find a wartime photo of this model of Dow scope with a double claw mount.

I wish you much luck finding a period pic showing the Dow without focal adjustment , I have been collecting period photos for 20+ yrs now and have only seen and know of 1 SSDC period sniper photo , which is one above in your earlier post #3 .
