ax/ar 41 K98k with ZF41 Flat Roller

Recently bought this bolt mismatch ax/ar coded K98k rifle from 1941 which features an original flat roller rail and came with a mismatching early cxn scope. Flat Rollers are very tough to find, as are double coded rifles, therefore despite these two mismatching parts I'm quite happy with having been able to buy this piece.

The rifle is very close in serial to the rifle that sauer has posted here: https://www.k98kforum.com/threads/98k-zf41-flat-roller.40194/ - they both are in the same l (L) letter block and are only 98 digits apart of each other. The mismatching bolt is a Gustloff bolt which - aside of the wrong suffix - has a very nice almost full match to the rifles serial (rifle 8878 whereas bolt is 8848). Maybe that got mixed up in the field on a table, but nevertheless only a bolt mismatch.

Maybe one day the matching numbers scope will turn up :) I'll add it to the list in the other thread!

I would not be complaining at all about the MM Bolt specially were its a dual coded rifle a ZF41 and a flat roller rifle to boot , all in all a very nice example .
Congrats on your purchase Georg certainly one to be proud of imho .

Congrats, I would have been happy about that too and thanks for the nice photos.

I think it is not 1941 production, but 1942. In the thread "ZF41 Study" I wrote something about this topic:
"Kentomon, your research is great and so is your work with the lubricant markings for dating the scopes. I agree with you, the blue circle was a result of the experiences during Winter 1941/1942.

Xavier, your "ax/ar41" Sn. 8246l is in fact 1942 production.
This K98k belongs to the "l" block production from 1941, but this rifle was not assembled until mid-1942. There was a production stop at Mauser in Berlin in 1941 and that is why the later assembled Zf.41 flat rollers can be found in 1942.

If you remove the buttplate you may find a stock completion date code from 1941 like "Br 3. 22. 1941" which means May 28, 1941, but a code from 1942 like "Br 3. 4. 1942" which means April 3, 1942 is also possible." Link

If it's not too much trouble, it would be nice if you could take a photo, we still need some data for the Addendum book.

I keep my fingers crossed for the other thing we talked about and that the matching numbers scope will turn up!
:)
