1940 code 42 navy?

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to reach out and say thank you. Spent some time viewing a lot of posts and others rifles, there are some great examples on here. I do enjoy seeing these and all the other models and variants there are. Currently looking for some refernce books but, I've been trying to pin point more on my rifle and I was hoping one of you might be able to help!

My dad just got this for me at an auction. To me the gun is perfect but wanted your guys thoughts. I went back through most of the serial numbers without taking too much apart and it looks matching (f block 7679). All pieces and parts seem early war! Laminate stock, appears to be sanded down at some point but not terrible - no other stock markings present except for numbers. Finish looks great in person.

My only concerns was the bolt handel, has a german swastika on the back (is this a period correct proof?), there is a mix of eagles 655 and 63 - what is the main reason for this? And lastly - on the discussion there are O markings which should be for Ostsee fleet or Baltic fleet I assume - is there anyway to track this gun or service history / distribution during the war?

I did not see any import marks and the gun looks good to go for me. Are there any nagging points or other photos I should provide?

Here is a dropbox link view only file since my file sizes are too large. If im not supposed to send links hopefully one of you can advise and ill take down this post.

Thanks again guys, really happy to join the club even if we overpaid 🤣👍

The stock has been heavily cleaned in addition to the sanding. Very unfortunate and a big hit on value. The stock is by far the most important part onlf the rifle and most collectors would consider that one ruined. Blue may or may not be original, in some pics it looks worked on and not so much in others.

The serial numbers you show look original. A mix of 63 and 655 inspections are normal for 1940 as the WaA inspection office for the factory changed over. Nothing has been renumbered, and yes it was in the inventory of the KM. Can't say much beyond that.

The stock stumps me a bit regarding what they did to it. It's doesn't look too bad IMHO and the bolt cutout is still very sharp, but the stamps are almost completely wiped out.
