I’m thinking a sniper project . Bore is very nice. All matching on the metal that’s left , but obviously refinished . The front and rear sights are not messed with, and the hand guard ring is still there . Bolt , receiver , mag well, even retention screws all matching numbers. I already have a jps stock and waa37 bands .

I was going to maybe grumble until I saw how aggressively it had been polished and the drill/tap job on the receiver.

Pity that it got wrecked, but yeah that would be a good candidate for a repro sniper project in my book.

Any thoughts on the finish? It's a bit high gloss for a wartime sniper. I'd be tempted to bead blast it a bit and reblue it in something a little less mirror-like

It's an option. It's in my state's legal 10 day purgatory, so I'll think about the project more when I have it in hand.

Back from Eric and first mock up with a civilian but period correct CZ Jena. ( yes, I need to make the objective mounts off, but it's not soldered on, so that will be easy)

I'll see how she shoots like this, with split rings, and if I like it, will use the spare solid rings I have to mount the scope the right way.

The stock just got a single coat of Howard's and that came out great.

All up, I'm about $1200 into this project.

Anyone got a repro cleaning rod for a CE44?

have you tried the closed ring ‘tops’ in the ‘split ring’ bases? I’m assuming that yours are accumounts; when I spoke with them about that idea, they were very evasive about whether or not that would work. Making me think that there were either part revisions or multiple suppliers. He didn’t flat out say “no”, more like “probably not”, negative enough to keep me from buying an extra set to test it. I went w/split rings because I didn’t have a period scope to use when Eric did mine, (no pix yet, only shot 1st time recently) and to prevent some future owner from trying to sell as original.

Yes, both the split and solid ring works well with the front turret base, the one that came with the split originally. On the rear, I ended up using the base from the split ring set, then the middle part of the tower from the solid ring set. That tower will accept both the solid and the split ring, while the tower that came with the split set won't. Accumounts is evasive because they probably get a lot of rejects from the manufacturer and the tolerances are not very tight, so some sets work well together, and some are way off.

Yea, the set was extra $200, just so I can try this. Expensive lesssons tool.

So strictly cosmetic question, cold blue the scope to make it darker to match the rifle, or leave it as is? (Yea, nice vintage scope and all, but that's what it is for, to be used with a rifle)
