Late 1945 PP ac mismatch rig

Hello,
I just got this one in from Legacy Collectibles a couple of weeks ago. Nothing special, but I don’t think it’s been cleaned or anything and I just really liked it. So, I thought I would photo it and show her off. Sort of a “pre Tulsa buy” I guess you could say.

The holster is a little odd. Has a perfectly cut hole in the belt loop. Can’t figure out why that was there. And, it has a different color of leather flap. Otherwise, it seems like a typical Akah holster for a PP.

Two gray phosphate W mags toped it off.

I really liked the later wood gripped PP’s for some reason. They are bulky and chunky, but I guess it sorta shows the desperate things they did at the end of things.

I hadn’t applied any oil to her yet as it’s just neat seeing it dry like that. You can barely see the bubble wrap impression circles on the slide somewhat.IMG_2679.jpegIMG_2680.jpegIMG_2681.jpegIMG_2682.jpegIMG_2683.jpegIMG_2684.jpegIMG_2685.jpegIMG_2686.jpegIMG_2689.jpegIMG_2690.jpegIMG_2693.jpegIMG_2694.jpegIMG_2695.jpegIMG_2696.jpegIMG_2697.jpeg

The hole in the back of the holster is most likely from being hung near the bunk in the Vets barracks . Banjomike
Very possible. But, what makes me wonder is that the hole is precisely centered and perfect, not ragged or anything like being haphazardly done.

amazing condition and the slide almost looks phosphated. The dry light grips and overall look of the rig are very appealing. The hole looks like it was done with a leather punch IMHO. Doesn't really take away and these holsters are so cheap and common its a non issue really..

Yes it does. But the lighting in the photos, and it’s so dry that it makes it appear like that even more so. If I were to put a little oil on the slide it would really show the light blue color more that they have.

My guess also is that the holster hole was done with a punch. Way too precise of a hole.

Nice one Kelly, I never get tired of pressed grips, great looking pistol. I hate bubble wrap directly against a gun, the oils on it or something from manufacturing I suppose do that, minor pet peeve of mine lol.

Thanks! Yeah, I can’t explain it but pressed wood grips on these are just the neatest thing. Just the collector in us I guess, because the normal thin plastic grips are more streamline and what everybody thinks a PP should look like.

The bubble wrap marks I didn’t see until later. They’re easily wiped off but I didn’t want to do a re-shoot of the photos. Ran out of time.

R.Blue,
That is really cool! I do have a mismatch like that with capture papers and some other paperwork with it (I can’t recall what the other paperwork is off hand as I’m typing this). It’s been a few years since I got it. I want to say that mine, with capture papers, has the plastic grips though. Glad you posted yours as that’s really neat.

Ours are close in numbers to each other. Our parts were probably laying together on the assembly line when they were picked through and assembled. Who knows?

Have you researched the vet?

Here’s a late P.38 ac45 b block that I researched the vet on:

You know…..the guys in the know seem to point out that these were simply souvenirs. I submit they could have been used in combat. What I mean is that the G.I.s got these from the Walther factory and left with them and continued the fight. The War wasn’t over yet. So, it could be possible that some of these could have been used by the G.I.’s in the fighting. Just a possibility that I propose, nothing concrete.
