Help with information on steyr pistol

Hello everyone hope all is well. I just have some questions about this steyr 08 conversion. Do you think it's all original. And by that I mean finnish, parts . I see it's all matching which is a good thing. I'm thinking about picking this up. It says matching barrel with proof mark. I'm just a little on edge on the condition of it. Also I notice the safety lever is digging into the blue. Is this normal. I don't really see that on any of the others I've looked at. That's what's kinda bothering me about it. Also the retainer for the firing pin. The cover it looks like it was blued Also. It has the K marks but I haven't seen any others where it's black in color most are still in silver . I posted a couple pictures.I know the gun wasn't redone by Austria In the 30s since there is no Heeresverwaltung stamp. Am I good to assume that this was reblued. Or is this original. Any information about the pistol or anything is greatly appreciated

Judging by the images it looks refinished. The incorrect info in Still has been updated on production figures. Conversions to 9mm total to around 13K. It shows the E/K Police acceptance marking which is correct. I'll post a pic of mine for reference. Value depends on the price and if you don't mind a refinished example.

Yea it's kinda high 1800. I just don't know if it would be worth it or not. I want it but it being refinished is kinda a let down. I wonder since it's already refinished if it would hurt the value to make it original again. If it's been refinished idk if it would hurt it again. But send it in to get done by a gun restoration place. The one you have is beautiful i would love to find an original one that's non refinished

Here it looks like done on matching pistol, marked on strap for Sicherheits Wache. It should be refinished probably, even the late war pieces are not so high polished as the early ones.

Wait so is this reblued by Austria armory. Or is this a reblue that was done recently by someone. If it's an original refurbished pistol by Austria I don't mind that. I just wanna know if the reblue was done by someone recently. Or is it all done by the germans or Austria. I didn't know if reblue was part of the rework process or not.

It's really weird some guns are like dark black in color. And some are more grayish. There was a pistol for sale on GB. Supposedly the prototype number 1 steyr hahn in original caliber. Asking 25 thousand for it. The finished on that pistol is a dark black like this one. While others i see are more grey in color. Did they use different blue methods for that because i have seen some pistols really dark black like this. Do you think it's original.

The pistol is marked SW for Sicherheitswache (Austrian police), so a very good candidate for a Police rework after the Anschluss. Regarding the surface, it is most probably either original finish or a period (say 1918-1945) arsenal reblue. Sometimes, when the original surface got reblued, the result is a quite a bit less shiny than the original bluing. Most probably because they chemically removed the original rust bluing and did not polish the surface before rebluing.

Oh okay cool so then this is reblued but from the Arsenal. Perfect that's what I wanted to know. So this pistol had to be reblued by the germans when they did the rework to 9 luger? Also I notice this doesn't have the hv 30 stamp so this specific pistol wasn't refurbished by Austria then in the 30s is that a good assumption. It still has the wn17 stamp on it so the HeeresVerwaltung did get ahold of it

Alex14,

I found the GB listing on this pistol. The images show better than your postings. The clearer images cause me to revise my opinion on the refinish. I believe it to be original. I'm pretty sure this has gone through a few runs on GB. You may be able to contact the seller and negiotate a better price.

Personally i dont see details, but the slide with horizontal polishing looks like the pistol was refinished, most real by rework to 9mm Para, as by SW it was used in origin caliber 9mm Steyr, the Sicherheitswache Wien is well known unit since 1869. After 1918 they got in inventory army pistols so even Steyr M1912, prior this time they had only Steyr in 7,65 and Gasser revolvers. After NS change the piece was most real reworked to 9mm Para and german police proofed. These stamps are real in very late 1939 probably.

Thank you guys for all the help and yes it is the one on GB. I was watching it for a little bit. Only thing is i never bought anything on GB with a money order before. Just worries me a little bit. Also when you read his additional terms he doesn't seem to be a good candidate to work with. He has great ratings. But the whole non contact thing is kinda worrisome especially with paying with money order only

There are a few M1912 on the Legacy Collectables website. They take CC's and have an inspection privilege. You could contact them and ask for one of the police conversions.

I just looked and legacy used to have an o8 conversion for sale a couple weeks ago. Only thing was the barrel wasn't matching and it think they were asking like 1600 for it too. I looked and they dont have anymore of the 08 steyrs they have some nice regular ones though. I like the 08 conversions that's what I'm interested in

Looks like another one of my watchlist items is going bye bye 😂 oh well nice to see it's a good one. How hard would they be to find by chance? One of the Austrian done ones. To alleviate some concerns I've done business with Waffen US multiple times in the past and the guy is solid. Got a West German browning high power rig with matching mags, S&W hand eject model 2 in 455 Webley and a Martini Henry from him. When it comes to his auctions it's better to hit the buy now if you really want it because items from him get sniped all the time from the OG bid since it's only 2-300 extra bucks.

Oh hello how are you hope all is well yes I've been watching this pistol. I think I might get it i message him but no response yet. It looks good just a little surface rust

It probably is, I wouldn't shy away from that example cause of bronze wool being available to gently clean it just a bit or using a brass brush, he should get back to ya I imagine by lunch maybe tomorrow. As for me I've been doing well, got a 27 1939 Luftwaffe paid off and on the way and also just won a CE41 as well so that'll compliment my 147 1940 nicely. From a collecting stand point I finally have a consecutive factory code and year set of rifles now which is pretty neat to me. Definitely need to take a hiatus from hurting my wallet so much tho 🤣 I may move my DUV 42 Gustloff assembled rifle just to free up some funds plus I'm not in love with it as much as I should be. Gonna get the fungus on the stock cleaned up first then get pics of it again for the sales post but I'm not 100% certain I wanna sell it just yet. Shall see what the future holds for it.

Also got a deal worked out for a 27 1940 so that'll be my second consecutive code and year rifle! Pretty excited for that one :)

Yes I'm actually trying to get a steyr pistol 08 rework from every year. I know it doesn't mean much historical wise. But I want one from 1911-1919 which is probably impossible but it is my favorite pistol. I still am on the hunt for my SS contract k98 with no luck found a ss gew with death heads but at a price of 12,000$ it's just outta my price range by a couple cents.lol wow I'm happy to hear you finally paid off that rifle. I'm on the fence with alot of things right now. I'm looking at a steyr m95/30 rifle in mint condition. We'll at least it looks that way. And I'm actually waiting for a friend to reload some 765 belgian/ argentine spotter rounds with the black tip for me for my 1891 mauser. Did have a guy on GB with some ammo for 8x56r german stamped but he never got back to me. I haven't had the best of luck lately. Probably lost like 15 different ads since last time we talked.

I feel ya on missing out on items, there was a 8x50R 1908 WW1 M95 depot reworked rifle that I wanted but it sold. The M95 family of rifles is interesting to me for sure and the pre 1930's examples.are evidently super smooth, my watchlist is absolutely huge and were probably looking at the same M95 rifle 🤣 I really need to slow down but there is a ton out there that has my eye such as a Canadian and British contract M10 Ross rifles, a straight up fazackerly No4 Mk1, French resistance No4 Mk1's and refurbished PU sniper rifles then of course 3 more K98K's just on GB. Would love a boxed Mitchel Mauser PU as well that is a Molot example but I got abit spooked on buy now button for the last one I seen and missed out. Oh well if I had grabbed that I wouldn't have my CE41. Gonna get payment for that out tonight or tomorrow and eargerly await it's arrival at my FFL!
