Wrong section of the forum to ask this question (would be the Nazi period section) but to answer your question we had one in better condition than this sell for 4.5-5K around maybe 2 months ago. Basically is gonna be expensive to get one like that. On a side note something is up with the serial number pic imo because it's either enhanced or has been renumbered. Almost seems flat on the receiver serial number.

And admin should change it, they did for me with my 1899 Spandau Gewehr 98M from the WW1 section to the weimar era.

What makes the Portuguese contract rifle so valuable?

Limited block range that was produced for the Portuguese contract in 1941 which did have some rifles siezed by Germans and issued to German troops because of operation Barbarossa (F,G and H block observed although typically just G and H block) the crest is very neat imo but the biggest reason we had one sell so high was because of condition. Even with something rare as the old saying goes "condition is king" and even something more common like a BNZ 43 SS contract I seen in factory fresh condition sell for right at or over 5K several years ago. Both rifles was CRISP.

imho the serial number is fine....what your seeing is a refection. Something to consider, is it import marked?

Could be, from a different angel it looks normal. I've seen where this example is coming up and noticed it the first time with the weird serial but I think it was edited to be seen better.
