Guy has this stack of old sporterized stocks, I have no need for it but if they might be able to help people out I’ll try to grab them. If it’s a waste of time I’ll let them be.
I know little about stock repair, wasn’t sure if these would be helpful or not, but sounds like they’d help the greater goodNot following. Salvageable or cut in a way that makes them useless? Even then I used a takedown disk and recoil lug from one like this for my minelis repro stock, so there is that. Crossbills of that 03a3 stock, also useful .
looking forward to the report on this treasure hunt : )I sent you a PM.
Nate and I are interested in the lot.
Maybe some compensation involved.
Thanks,
Bruce
Ever thought about making some stocks? I'd love someone to make an odd-sized laminate late Steyr stock.Guys, Nate from the forum has been working on a long term project to fabricate front ends (K98k stocks) from original material.
While I have made a few from scratch, the addition of a CNC and duplicating machine helps out greatly.
If we can get the stocks, the ones that are basket cases will go towards creating blanks for the new front ends.
Of course, these will be offered on the forum when ready.
I think Lesek's products are great & have zero against him, but not being fluent in Polish, problems w/ US customs, problems w/ war next door to him, & possibly health issues he may have, it'd be nice to have an alternative without those issues & perhaps a shorter order-to-receipt queue.L. Fox was making really decent k98k repro stocks years ago and the price was decent in my opinion. I picked up quite a few and he even made me some late war versions. I guess it helped that I’m fluent in Polish so we were able to go over the fine details and measurements of the bolt cutouts, etc that differentiate certain examples. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with them. Still nothing beats an original of course but when I was looking for a scrub walnut bnz KM stock 10 years ago for my matching BA… $1800 was what fellow collectors were asking for it.
Is he still making those stocks by chance?L. Fox was making really decent k98k repro stocks years ago and the price was decent in my opinion. He's had issues with customs? Really now, that stinks I was hoping to get a stock from him one day :/I think Lesek's products are great & have zero against him, but not being fluent in Polish, problems w/ US customs, problems w/ war next door to him, & possibly health issues he may have, it'd be nice to have an alternative without those issues & perhaps a shorter order-to-receipt queue.
The last I saw his lead time on G/K43 stocks was in the ~2 year ballpark. Even if customs was a 100% sure bet, he spoke perfect English, and he was 20 years old and healthy as a horse we'd still need another good source because he's way, way, way over-booked.He's had issues with customs? Very true, prestigious stocks makes good Lee Enfield stuff but I've seen on here his Mauser stocks used a Yugo as a base and there wrong as a result which sucks. May order a No1 Mk3 stock set from them tho because my 1916 has a warped forend. The last I saw his lead time on G/K43 stocks was in the ~2 year ballpark.
