I am a retired crusty old Motor Sergeant from the US Army and have been fro more than a decade now. Damn I feel old. I'm also an advanced hobby gunsmith, hand loader, hunter, fisherman, stamp collector, coin collector, cancer survivor and my biggest tout to fame is that I am a proud older father of an 18 month old little girl and 9 year old boy. I like all things Mauser particularly rifles small ring and large ring alike. Making sporter's is the name of my game at least for now. I have yet to find a complete rifle within my budget that is complete enough to be worthy of restoration. I don't believe in wall hangers or safe queens. If a gun doesn't go bang then I have no use for it.
I found my way to this forum in search of information and found my answers while lurking over this forum. The answers I found were related to the differences between the small ring Mauser's. The 1894 Brazilian contract Mauser is one that is interesting me right now and Sarco has some in stock. Because I am almost out of 1893 receivers to make useful again and I have boxes of small ring parts that are going to be orphaned and I plan on moving onto large ring receivers next for the same reasons.
I have memberships to some other forums and primarily stick to the Smithing and Hand loading threads because that is what interests me the most. Where one may be lacking the other often picks up. I do have a small library for the topics of Hand loading and Smithing. I look forward to participating with this forum.
