I have been holding out for a late war phosphate Radom for my collection, but when this one presented itself I had to add it. It’s a 2 lever second series D block that’s blued but with the cool Steyr late war wood grips. It’s a nice piece in good condition. All numbers matching except that the hammer in this one is not marked with a serial number, maybe they quit marking the hammers this late? I added a couple photos with my early 3 lever b block. I just love Radom's, they are one of my favorite pistols of WW2…..

So, the question becomes how a 2nd series D-block, blued pistol came to have a set of Steyr wood grips on it? Since some damaged pistols from the air raids upon Steyrwerke during February, 1944 are known to have been resurrected during the k-bloc, perhaps this is one which suffered to a lesser degree. Most are b-bloc examples, but I believe some few c or d-block pieces may also exist. The first appearance of Steyr wood grips occurs around the 6000 h-bloc... all blue pistols. Possibly the original grips were damaged and subsequently replaced with Steyr ones as well...

This 2nd series D-bloc pistol recently turned up on Simpson, Ltd:

Nice looking pistol as well obviously with plastic grips…. I agree that it is interesting to ponder how my example came to exist with the late wood grips. I am leaning towards your post prior to this post. When I stripped the pistol down to check the numbers and get this cleaned and oiled a little, everything seemed to have been together for quite sometime. Now that’s not saying at some point long ago that the grips weren’t swapped for a reason. I would love to hear more thoughts on this from some of you that have been in this for far longer than me and have seen many more examples over the years…
