Here's my G.33/40 rifle. It has no serial numbers, but otherwise appears to be all correct. Rifles lacking serial numbers were probably built up of spare parts as souvenirs for GI's immediately following WWII. These are seen in varying stages of completion, often with missing or incomplete rear sights. One such G.33/40 has been documented on which the barrel does not index with the receiver and is screwed in only finger tight.

The receiver is the only part finished in phosphate. All other parts are either blued and polished, or left bright. All inspection marks are WaA63 or 607. Many parts have a tiny z in a circle, meaning unknown. The barrel appears to be properly installed and head spaced. Magazine/trigger guard bolts are not staked as they usually are on factory-built rifles. There are no firing proof marks on the receiver. I have not removed the hand guard and so have not checked for a barrel proof.

More pics. Condition of this rifle is almost new, with little handling over the years. Fortunately, the correct cleaning rod and front sight hood came with it. These are almost impossible to find.

absolutely killer piece, one of these sold here a year or two ago for a real good price and i still regret not being online at the time

This could be spare piece builded in german depot already, as the parts are evidently mixed, on bolt there is strange like electropenciled WaA607 on the schloss piece, same as on magazine lower plate is E/607 and most real on bolt locking lever too, which speaks for early Povazska Bystrica G24(t) spare parts. Should be looked what is on magazine folower, as it looks like 77 proof?

Anyway PB didnt made any G33/40 parts so this was mixed wrongly. Its a nice piece. There didnt exist any fireproofs so its a local assembly.

That one was on Gunbonker I believe. I've seen several variants like this with barrels not indexed all the way in, that is not final complete. Interesting and my thoughts on them as are set forth by Dave. Nice little carbine.

Here's another carbine in 8mm Mauser, an Iranian M1949 "Camel" Carbine. It's also in new condition. It's a real kicker, and a fire breather when fired at night. Its quality is excellent, with very a smoothly operating bolt. Its blued finish is of the highest standard. All dimensions are nearly identical to those of the G.33/40. Same concept, a carbine version of a full-sized service rifle.

The literal translation of the text on the receiver rail is: "Carbine was built by the army in 1328." (Western date 1949). Possibly a better translation might be, "Army carbine model 1949". The serial number reads: 17774-29. I believe that the last two numbers are the actual year of manufacture, 29 (western date 50, or 1950). The rear sight scale is graduated in western numerals, not Arabic.

It’s weird that the factory would have 1942 parts sitting around in 1945, especially given the urgent need for weapons.

This was assembled in german depots most real in west of germany as moved the rifles to USA, there is spare parts contract for G33/40 in late 42. Since 1943 dot made Kar98k so the return to previous G33/40 production was not real.

Up until today, I have not seen etched Waffenamts. I vaugely remember seeing some on MG bolt parts but I could be wrong. I recently acquired two bolt shrouds with the etched WaA607. This thread helped me identify them as being legit… hopefully?!

Whenever that 33/40 was built its still cool as heck. Thanks for posting it

Etched WaAs were a thing. Walther etched WaA359 on the open sears found on early ac41 guns, you see it on some MG bolt parts, etc. I've seen etched BAL on Luft MG bolts also.

Looks too weird to be fake IMO. And seeing one of these on a 33/40 parts guns suggests they are original. Early spares maybe? Who knows.

I agree with Ryan, these parts with the etched WaA607 are original. There are some more examples in the forum.

I have also seen examples where collectors have removed such matching parts and replaced them with other G.33/40 spare parts because they think that this will get them closer to the original. Unfortunately original rifles are often destroyed in this way.

If anyone buys one of these G.33/40s without serial number, please do not "restore" it with "matching spare parts".

The parts should be compared with other Povazska Bystrica production,( Z in circle or other technological proofs typical for ZB) because of early period of G24(t) it was used WaA607 so not real that they would made any spare parts contract, that would be only by the later production and offcoarse this was destined for G24(t) bolts primarily and not with G33/40 bolts. Bolts could be teoretically real in case of post 1941 production by other plants but not by PB.
