Probably the single nicest 1940 42 code Luftwaffe 98k out there.

What's the current market value on something like this now? I'm not really up on prices. I may need to let it go to fund another purchase.

If you placed it in the trader in the mid 3k’s it’d probably sell here, even now when most people aren’t buying much of anything

A friend of mine sold an equally nice Luftwaffe marked 42 code 1940 earlier this year in a private sale for $4500. I’m not saying it was or wasn’t worth it, but that’s what it sold for.

But, if it were me, I’d do absolutely everything I could to just keep something like that. You’ll most likely never find one again
I definitely agree. Its not a choice I'd be making in haste as like you said, I'll likely never see one as nice in my collection again. Not to mention it's the very last 98k i have left in my collection.

If it is to be sold, it will be to acquire my single holy grail gun and even then it'd probably only get me less than half way there. Im in negotiations now and ultimately the deciding factor won't be the price of the piece. But rather how much time the owner is willing to allow for me to pay for it. She's definitely ok with me paying in installments but over what time period is still up for discussion.

But for those here that may be wondering what would make me even consider selling this beautiful 98k. I'm in negotiations to purchase an original short land pattern brown bess with direct, documented, and verified provenance placing it in American Hands at bunker hill. Her G,G,G,G Grandfather carried it there and its been passed down her family since and documented all the way. She has no children or close family to pass it on to and she's well into her 90s. I've been her pest control technician for the last two years and have seen it hanging over her fireplace. I've often talked to her about it. Im figuring its probably going to fall somewhere between $10,000-$15,000 base on two other similar documented ones from the Revolution that sold in the last few yaers.

Well, that Brown Bess is a treasure after reading your description. I have an equally nice 42 1940 K98k with Luftwaffe markings that I don't intend to sell. However, I think it is worth somewhere north of $4,000. Good luck and let us know how things work out!

For all those here that gave advice here i thank you, that's why i love this group here. For now the decision has been made to return it to the safe. I worked a deal out for four of the five guns. The Bunker Hill tied Brown Bess she is going to keep for now but will be offered to me first when she does part with it.

Here’s my Luft 1940 42 code, all matching and my Luft 1941 AR code, all matching that came from the late Paul Johnston.
