Vet bring back, how did they get them home?

Thank you for sharing those family stories. We all need a little something to tie us to loved ones when they are gone. My 2nd cousins Pat was much older than me, was a lifelong batchelor, US Military Officer, and a “Sommelier” who bought for Total Wine. I would see him every other Christmas...

Mauser Oberndorf K98k Serial Studies and Data - 1934 to 1946

Excellent! It was brought back from the Ardenne region of Belgium I believe. Interesting that the next serial number has a barrel with a lower number. My barrel has the markings facing down.

Vet bring back, how did they get them home?

Thank you. It has a thick black paint on the Scabbard which is peeling. I’m not sure if it original. I know it’s “ddl”, Joshua Corts “40”

    1943 byf arrived

Nice looking one. I wonder what the marking is on the front of the front sight base? The barrel looks right for a byf, it was just made 1 year before the receiver. It could have been sitting around in a shop. Barrel marking looks just like my byf.

Question, it’s missing a sight hood and a cleaning rod, I know it had a 12.5 inch rod and a sight hood. I would like original's, anything like that out on EBay? I think the sling is a repro, but I’m not sure.

Vet bring back, how did they get them home?

The man I brought it home said his dad was in “The Battle of the Bulge” which was Christmas 1944. It would line up with a 1944 production k98. I remember there was a program on PBS was a documentary about “battle of the bulge” and he swore in one part of the black-and-white film he saw his...

Vet bring back, how did they get them home?

Knowing the family that inherited it…they weren’t shooters, hunters or collectors. They were always strangely secretive about firearms. I believe I know the full chain of custody from the “Heer”, to the PFC, to his son, and then to me. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. I inherited a...

Vet bring back, how did they get them home?

A few more. The barrel had a code “44D189” I presume that’s the year 1944 and a lot code, not sure about 189.

More photos, I compared it to a 1935 Chilean Banner Mauser. Quite a difference.

I will take more. It was picked up in Europe after being shot little, put in a closet and forgotten.
