You should write the serial in full plus name it on the "rifles looking for scopes" thread. If the serial is not only shown in a picture but written fully Google search will come up with it as a result once someone searches for this serial.

Why do you worry about that?

Russ, I don't know how involved you are in the K98k hobby, and K98k snipers particularly, but we do have a long heritage of warning our fellow collectors of fakery and scams to stay ahead of them. As a result, the fakery and fraud is far more controlled and minimized in K98k collecting than in other branches of firearm collecting. We do keep track of serial numbers and the condition of rifles, such as the LSR Jack posted, because they have a tendency to turn up down the road "matching" and "restored" with far higher price tags. This work is sometimes done to profit from deception, e.g., fraud. No one is saying the current owner, seller, or buyer is going to do that. What we are doing is keeping track of this piece so that as it moves through the chain of custody it doesn't become something it wasn't, for far more money. That is why we worry about that.
Cheers,
HB

What sort of snipers do you have?

Scoped ones. You? However, back in the day I couldn't see forking out that kind of money on something that didn't have a cyclic rate of at least 450 rpm. I feel the same way now but being a WW2 weapons collector requires me to have some snipers as representatives.

You seem very defensive about all this. Not sure why you are so hostile towards Jack about keeping track of a Long Side Rail for the reasons Ham explained. Do you have something personal with Jack? Or do you not like the manner in which we are trying to keep our hobby clean?

And now changing gears asking to see Ham's collection. Not sure what this has to with anything. Can we ask to see your collection of sniper rifles?

Get a life

Re-reading the thread I can understand your argument (this does NOT mean I think the same, but I can understand someone who would think this way!), but I absolutely do not understand why you need to use the words you've used.

A forum member warned that a scope-less rifle turned up and he seems to know the owner well enough that the rifle will soon be put to the market with a now matching mount. For those who might consider the purchase of an all matching rifle it IS important to know of this, because they might spend money for a factory matching rifle only to then find out they got a rifle with a faux matched mount. If you for yourself do not need this information, then up to you. But why flame someone else trying to help others?

Checked my calendar and didn’t see stepping and fetching for you on there. Go check out the pic reference sections and Vol. 2 of The Books. I’ve made it over 35 years in K98k collecting without your input, approval, or even knowledge of your existence. Thanks for the offer though.

You are doing the forum horsefly thing. And you’re insulting respected members here who regularly and substantively contribute positively to our community. You are not contributing anything positive or worthwhile, nor does it appear that you are here in good faith. There are hundreds of thousands of places on the internets where such horsefly antics are routine, even appreciated. You should buzz on over to any of those places. I’m sure you have more to do than horsefly our site. Go help someone. Go do something positive and beneficial with your time for the community. Good luck to you.
Cheers,
HB
